Barney Johnson. Composing since 2003, with works for orchestra, wind ensemble, vocal, chamber, and solo music. Music available on CD with Urlicht Audiovisuel & downloadable via SoundCloud. Performances at the National Opera Center, Symphony Space, and Tenri Cultural Insitute. Collaborations & workshops with the New York Piano Quartet, Colorado Quartet, & Iktus Perussion. Composition recitals in Paris, New York, Boston, & Santa Barbara. Awarded scholarships & fellowships at the University of California, Santa Barbara, Seal Bay Music Festival, & The European-American Musical Alliance. Teaching positions at SUNY New Paltz, The Chamber Music Center of New York, Union County College, & the JCC Thurnauer School of Music.
Barney studied tuba & composition at the Walnut Hill Conservatory (2007), and completed his Bachelors in Music Composition at the State University of New York at Purchase College (2011). He has a Masters in Music Composition from The University of California, Santa Barbara (2014) and a Diplôme Supèrieur in Orchestration at L'Ecole Normale de Musique (2021).He moved to Paris, France in 2017 to study harmony with Narcis Bonet, protegé of Nadia Boulanger at La Schola Cantorum. Barney now lives in Central New Jersey, where he completed his first orchestral work, helpisontheway for orchestra. His music is accessible on the Purchase Page.
